Jill's Journal: There’s yet another unusual thing about New Jersey, which I’d forgotten from previous visits. A person is not allowed to pump his or her own gas! There’s some state law that mandates every single gas station be full service. While I’m sure this is a pretty sweet deal for drivers during inclement weather, it really throws me for a loop. Am I supposed to exchange pleasantries while the poor guy pumps my gas? Am I allowed to get out of car? And am I supposed to tip him?
I think I’d much rather pump my own gas, thank you very much.
