Acadia National Park

Jill's Journal: Somewhere, on a travel website, I saw this:
“The ultimate expression of Down East Maine’s beauty has to be Acadia National Park (near) Bar Harbor, a must-see place whether you live just down the road or in southern Texas. Among the park’s offerings … (are) outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests, and mountain silhouettes. It’s all in front of you; just putter along and try to blink occasionally.”
Oh, how true that is. Even in the rain and fog, it is beyond astounding. Once again, pictures can’t convey the splendor.

There is also a true summer season here and we’ve clearly missed it. On sign after sign around the park, we saw this:
And this is the first place Rob and I looked at each other and said together, “We have to come back.”

There’s been other places we would very much like to revisit – for instance, we’d love to do the pony swim in Chincoteague again. It is pure wonderment and delight. I’m pretty sure we could do it year after year and love it every single time. But this? This we have to do again, and it has to be during “the season” so we can truly experience it in all its grandeur. We don’t know when it will be…next summer? A summer a few years from now after we’ve crossed the rest of the country? We don’t know; all we know is that it’s captured us.
By the way, a cute child moment: we drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the spot where the sun’s rays first hit the U.S. every morning. A low-lying cloud covered the top and as we drove through, one of the girls said in amazement, “There’s a ROAD in the cloud!” They couldn’t believe it. Who knew even clouds have roads? :)

Our neighbors named their daughter "Acadia" after learning they were expecting her during a trip to the national park. It must've really impressed them! (The name leaves an impression too, but it's a bit of a mouthful when you have to scream it down the street!)
