Talk About a Happy Girl!

Jill's Journal: Madelyn, our darling Madelyn, makes friends in an instant. This is a great and wonderful quality. She also gets incredibly attached to them, which is not always easy for her or for us. She’s shed many a tear over having to say goodbye to playground buddies (even the ones she's met just that day). Even more so, she misses beloved family members and longs to be in their presence.

But there’s no one she’s shed more tears over than Eli. She met Eli in 2009 when they were both three and in their first year of preschool. Happily, Eli’s parents are fantastic and we all had a ball at several playdates together. By the end of the school year, we’d learned Madelyn and Eli had already kissed (!) and had decided to marry.

When we left Lexington at the end of Madelyn’s first preschool year, I didn’t anticipate that Madelyn’s memories of Eli would be quite so strong. She misses him dreadfully even now, over a year later. Not a week goes by that Eli isn’t mentioned. This is one devoted little lady. She tells us she loves him so much and can’t bear to be without him (yes, “Drama” is her middle name).

So today, when a package arrived from Eli himself, Madelyn was beside herself with joy. Seriously, this was a deliriously happy little girl. The package contained a letter, recent pictures of Eli (shown at the top), and toys. She is already treasuring every single little thing in that package. So to Eli (and most especially to his Mom, Mary)…thank you, so very, very much, for making a little girl’s day!

Well, you certainly couldn't ask for a more handsome son-in-law! Your girls are just flying off the market, aren't they?!? :)

How cute is this!? Detta got a marriage proposal at school this year, haha. A thought, what a great introduction to the creative art of letter writing? She can collect addresses and write them while they can return with an email to you all...and when you get a long stay spot then maybe SHE can actually get a letter! I love mail! :-) My mother tells me I was this way too...fun!

Diana -- I know! Two out of three betrothed; my work is practically done. Ha ha! Funny thing is Erika had an "intended" too (in kindergarten), but changed her mind because he wasn't ambitious enough. She thinks being First Lady sounds like a pretty good gig and apparently he wasn't Presidential material. The girl has got goals!

Andrea -- all these little girls already thinking of the future! Did Detta accept? :)

And by the way, we're always up for pen pals for the girls. What fun! Is Detta ready for one? If you ever want to, we do have a permanent address in Lexington, but we only have the mail forwarded about once a month or so...so our responses are SLOW!
