All is Right with the World

Jill's Journal: All is right with the world. The sun shined brilliantly all day long after several dreary days of rain. We left Massachusetts behind with a great appreciation for the state of Pilgrims and Patriots. Maine greeted us with vast expanses and exquisite scenery. It is darn, darn pretty already. And the incomparable Zenyatta, The Greatest Racehorse in the History of the World, stayed undefeated to win her 19th start in another heart-stopping thriller. Yes, life is good.

We’re only about 40 miles into Maine and have claimed Scarborough, near Portland on the coast, as home for the next little while. I had to laugh: on the freeway, there were signs, “Watch Out for Moose in Roadway.” I naively expected signs like that in Idaho or Wyoming, but never in New England near the Canadian border. It’s just slightly different from the signs of my childhood near San Diego and the Mexican border, where drivers are urged to beware of illegal aliens running across the freeway. :)

Everyone I know that has been to Maine has fallen in love with it. My cousin and her family lived there most of her childhood, and her half sister just moved her own family back there.
I'd definitely love to visit sometime!

Umm, are you supposed to watch out for the illegal aliens? Or do you get extra points for keeping their hats on when you hit them?! Okay, bad joke...
