Fall Foliage

Jill's Journal: Many fellow travelers and experienced “leaf-peepers” have told us the fall foliage this year is subpar. Apparently the unusually hot summer and drought conditions in the Northeast not only have taken away the color intensity, but also have failed to “synchronize” the trees (normally all the trees change colors at the same time, which gives the incredible “wow factor”). A quick internet search on the many foliage tracking sites confirms this.

I can’t speak for the disappointment of all the official leaf-peepers, but that’s okay by us. Sure, we would love to see the spectacular colors New England is known for, but we’re here for the whole experience and not just the leaves. We’re loving every minute and feel so blessed to be on this adventure, fabulous leaves or not. Any extra “wow factor” we see is just a bonus.

And we still think scenes of “low foliage” like this random Maine cow pasture near our campground are gorgeous.
