Laguna Seca

Jill's Journal: Our sweeping view off one side of our house on wheels at our new campsite. It’s awfully nice.

And our view off the other side! Yes, that’s a racetrack, but not the kind of racetrack that makes me feel like I’m at home. No, this is the other kind of horsepower, the one that I know practically nothing about. We’re at Laguna Seca, a world-renowned motor raceway. If you’ve ever heard of the “Corkscrew,” considered the motorsport world’s most challenging turn, this is where it’s at. Rob’s a little giddy about staying here and the girls think it’s super cool and have been quoting the movie “Cars.” Ka-chow!

We can get right up to the fence and watch races. Apparently there’s a race or racing school or other event going on just about every single day. This morning we heard the engines start revving at 9am.

We’ve only been here a day and already we’re quite taken with the Monterey Peninsula. I mentioned earlier that the parks/outdoor public spaces in San Luis Obispo County were extra nice, but it turns out Monterey can give them a run for their money. The first park we went to here was much bigger and better, but it was also much more crowded (which makes keeping track of three children who all want to go in separate directions that much harder). The girls, of course, thought it was utterly fantastic.

I love this picture of Madelyn running alongside her Dad and sister on the slide and laughing hysterically. We’re all happy to be here. Yes, Monterey and Laguna Seca are going to be the perfect way for us to re-embark into the world of full-time traveling.

Is this Dennis the Menace Park? If it isn't, I've forgotten what they added recently, then add that park in Monterey to your list. My kids LOVED it! Hope you get a chance to see all the sea life there, too. Missed seeing you while near So Cal, but Lord willing, we'll see each other soon!
